The Camera (The Ansel Adams Photography Series 1.

Ansel Adams. The Camera (The Ansel Adams Photography Series 1). 1995. ISBN-13: 9780821221846.

This is the first photography book I read, and it covers many of the essentials for getting an in-focus, properly-exposed image. The book was not written for the digital age. It describes large-format cameras and how Adams used them to get the landscape photos he is known for.

Photography Birds: Field Techniques and the Art of the Image.

Gerrit Vyn. Photography Birds: Field Techniques and the Art of the Image. 2020. ISBN13: 9781680510997.

I have written a mini-review about this book; briefly, I liked this one because every other page is a bird photo and describes the settings used for that photo. Really neat for seeing the range of settings and conditions that go into capturing animals that can fly away.

Gregory Heisler: 50 Portraits.

Gregory Heisler. Gregory Heisler: 50 Portraits. 2013. ISBN-13: 9780823085651.

This book has many photographs captured by Gregory Heisler, and he tells the story of how the image came to be, as well as the technical details that went into each photo. He has one photograph included that he did not like, and he describes why he does not like it. I don’t look at portraits the same again!
